Marissa Runs DMR and Mile at UW Invitational

On Friday, January 26, Marissa anchored the distance medley relay at the University of Washington Invitational and finished 7th overall in the competition with a time of 11:46.27. On Saturday, Marissa finished 39th overall in the mile race, with a time of 5:01.10, at Dempsey Indoor Stadium in Seattle, Washington.

Redshirt freshman McKay Johnson set the school record in the shot put and newcomers shined for the California men’s and women’s track and field teams on day two of the UW Invitational at Dempsey Indoor. Read more

Marissa Earns Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention

Marissa was one of the 21 Golden Bears from the men’s and women’s track and field teams who received honorable mention for the Pac-12 All-Academic teams.

Five members of the California men’s track and field team were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic team, announced Friday by the conference. In addition to the five Golden Bears, 21 Cal student-athletes combined between the men’s and women’s teams garnered honorable-mention honors. Read more

Marissa Places 43rd at NCAA West Regional

On Saturday, May 27th, Marissa finished 43rd in the 5,000 meters race, with a time of 17:53.57 at the NCAA West Regional, in Austin, Texas.

Ashley Anderson will join Peter Simon and Bethan Knights at the NCAA Championships after she qualified in the triple jump on Saturday in the final day of the NCAA West Regional from Austin, Texas. The trio will compete in two weeks at the national meet in Eugene, Ore,. Anderson finished eighth with a personal-best mark of 13.20, 43-3.75. That mark also ranks fifth in school history.  Read more

Marissa Places 11th at Pac-12 Championships

On Sunday, May 14th, Marissa finished 11th with a time of 4:29.85 in the 1,500 meters race at the Pac-12 Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Heading into the Pac-12 Championships, Ashtyn Davis was a perfect 6-for-6 in 110-meter hurdles finals this season. Make that 7-for-7 after Sunday’s action as the Cal junior cruised across the line in a lifetime-best 13.50 seconds to capture the conference title in the event. Read more

Marissa Advances to 1,500 Meters Finals at Pac-12 Championships

On Saturday, May 13th, Marissa finished 5th in her heat with a  time of 4:24.37 in the 1,500 meters prelims race at the Pac-12 Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

As the final competitor in the men’s shot put at the Pac-12 Championships Saturday afternoon, Cal’s Peter Simon stood in second place with one last throw left. The junior clearly made the most of his opportunity, unleashing a lifetime-best effort of 64-9.25 to capture the conference title, becoming the first Golden Bear to claim the honor in 36 years. Marissa Runs 8th Fastest 1,500 meters in Cal History at Brutus Hamilton

On Saturday, April 29th, Marissa finished 1st in the 1,500 meters race, with a PR time of 4:19.77 at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley, CA.  The time is the 8th fastest women’s 1,500 meters in Cal history.

On a picture-perfect day at Edwards Stadium, California used the ideal weather to set a host of lifetime bests at the Brutus Hamilton Challenge, while UTEP’s  Emmanuel Korir blazed to victory in the Lon Spurrier men’s 800 meters in the No. 2 time in the world this year.

Marissa Places 11th at the Cardinal Classic

On Friday, April 21st, Marissa finished 11th with a time of 16:21.29 in the 5,000 meters race at the Cardinal Classic in Palo Alto, California.

… Cal also competed in the Cardinal Classic on Friday. Trent Brendel placed third in the men’s 5000m (14:12.77). In the other men’s 5000m section, Robert Brandt placed fifth (13:45.45) and Garrett Corcoran claimed 10th with a time of 13:57.36. Read more

Marissa Runs 9th Fastest 3K in Cal History at the Big Meet

On Saturday, April 8th, Marissa finished 2nd with a PR time of 09:21.65 in the 3,000 meters race at the Big Meet in Palo Alto, California. The time is the 9th fastest women’s 3,000 meters in Cal history. View results

Throughout much of the afternoon, Cal and Stanford traded leads in the 123rd edition of the Big Meet. The Golden Bears, though, came on strong late and pulled away to claim the men’s competition, 91-70. Stanford prevailed in the women’s meet, 85-74. Read more

Marissa Runs 8th Fastest 5K in Cal History at Stanford Invitational

On Friday, March 31st,  Marissa finished 3rd in her section with a PR time of 16:06.86 in the 5,000 meters race at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, California. The time is the 8th fastest women’s 5,000 meters in Cal history.

Bethan Knights ran the third-fastest women’s 10,000 meters in school history and Cal picked up victories by Lauren Martinez in the women’s pole vault and Malik McMorris in the men’s collegiate discus to highlight the Golden Bears’ performances at the Stanford Invitational Friday. Read more

Marissa Doubles at Cal Outdoor Opener

On Saturday, March 4th, Marissa finished 2nd in the 1,500 meters race (Watch video), with a time of 4:32.82 and later finished 1st in the 3,000 meters race, with a time of 9:45.16, at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley, CA.

McKay Johnson certainly made an impression in his first competition as a Golden Bear. The freshman from Fresno won two events in his debut at the Cal Outdoor Opener Saturday at Edwards Stadium, including a school freshman-record throw of 61-4.75 in the shot put. Read more
